Frequently Asked Questions

Why hire a professional photographer?

When you hire a professional photographer you’re hiring someone with an artistic eye, an ability to put the subject at ease, and the technical skill to give you a riveting image that everyone will notice.

Our formal education in composition, artistic design, graphic design, lighting, exposure, and camera work ensure that you get more quality and consistency in your wedding photography than would otherwise be possible.

Professional photographers spend countless hours studying how light behaves, their camera equipment, thick manuals, reading professional publications, and dissecting other photographers work.

We do this because we love what we do, it keeps us fresh and our clients love us for it.

How do I know I chose the right photographer for my wedding?

Choosing the right photographer is not always an easy task, it takes time and effort. You are investing in a life-time memory and you want to be happy with the results. When looking for your photographer you should consider much more than their availability and price.

You want to make sure you are comfortable with the photographer that will be in charge of capturing your memories. It is important your personalities and style match, that your photographer listens to you and is in tune with your specific needs.

Both you and the photographer should take the time to meet at least once and ask questions; make sure you see lots of samples of their work.

It’s o.k. if you don’t know exactly what you need or want for your wedding day. But when you find the right photographer for you, they should be informed and help guide things in the direction that best suits your personality. Don’t forget, if you don’t ask for what you want you might not be satisfied with what you get.

What is “Trash the Dress”?

“Trash the Dress” is a photography session that happens some time after the wedding. It is an up-and-coming style of expression that’s edgy, sexy, and a lot of fun. You don’t need to destroy your wedding dress: It’s more of an opportunity to wear your dress again and have some sexy, fun photography done in a spontaneous location that you would most likely not get to on your wedding day.

“It’s not about destruction of beauty, but creation of art.”

What are “Coffee table books”?

Coffee table books are the newest look in wedding albums. They are actual hard cover books with medium to heavy-weight magazine style pages displaying your wedding photography.

They allow you to present your wedding pictures with the same style and elegance as your favourite oversized hard cover books. Coffee table books have always been associated with fine art and great photography.

We custom design coffee table books in house and have a wide range of sizes and colours available. Every book is individually custom designed.

What is a RAW file?

A RAW file is a capture of minimally processed data from a digital cameras image sensor. They are sometimes referred to as digital negatives, since they fulfill the same role as film negatives did in traditional chemical photography.

Professional photographers prefer the RAW format since the camera has no opportunity to alter the image as it is recorded. All other file types remove different amounts of image information that is then lost forever.

Having the Raw data allows a skilled photographer to return the best results back to you since the camera had no opportunity to take anything away.

Wedding photographers who do not “work in RAW” are cheating their clients out of some of the quality they might otherwise receive.

Why do you use RAW files and not JPEG, TIFF or other file types?

We use RAW file because they don’t throw away colour or detail information that could otherwise improve your images.

Most file types for images make compromises in colour information, highlight and shadow detail, sharpness and resolution. These files are smaller in size, don’t require specialized software to view and look great if they are prepared properly.

JPEG and TIFF files (and others) are appropriate for use when storing your images, viewing them on the Web, sharing with friends, or even sending them to the print lab, but on the wedding day and until your photographer has made your images as attractive as possible, using RAW image data is absolutely necessary.

What does it mean to have edited and colour corrected images.

A responsible photographer records your wedding images in RAW format and then spends many hours processing those images in the days after your wedding. Each image is individually color corrected, adjusted for brightness, sharpness, and details in the shadows and highlights. This is done in order to give you back the best images possible.

What is retouching and do you retouch any of the photographs?

Retouching is to improve or change a photographic image, by altering details or removing flaws.

As part of the editing process, we don’t charge extra for the removal of obvious blemishes on many photographs. For more extensive work, or a retouching request that covers most images, there may be an extra cost. You will always be informed of such costs before the work is performed
